On 22 April 2024, International Network on Explosive Weapons (INEW)* is publishing the Explosive Weapons Monitor 2023. 75 countries and territories have been exposed to explosive violence, says the report.

Noor, aged 3, is a survivor of the earthquake that struck Turkey and north-west Syria in February 2023. HI is accompanying this vivacious and resilient little girl on the way to her refound life.

Samar, 10, lives in a camp in the West Bank. She has multiple disabilities. Attending school is usually a challenge, exarcebated by the escalation of violence.

On 15 April 2023, an armed conflict broke out in Sudan. From May 2023, HI mobilised in Eastern Chad to support and care for Sudanese refugees fleeing the violence.

Raksmeymutta Nguon works for HI in Kampong Cham, Cambodia, as a rehabilitation specialist. Improving people’s quality of life and facilitating their inclusion are the drivers that motivate her.

The Technical Support Mechanism Team on Disability Inclusion is a working group that operates within protection cluster and under Gender Inclusion Task Team (GITT) in South Sudan. It was officially launched on 10 November 2023 and its members are made up of inclusion focal points who were trained during our Review, Adapt and Action Learning Labs (RAAL-lab).

HI Leave No One Behind - South Sudan team conducted its first Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop for members of the technical support mechanism group at Juba Regency hotel, Juba, South Sudan from 27th to 29th February 2024. The three-day training drew 16 inclusion focal points drawn from National and International Non-Governmental Organizations, Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPD’s) and UN agencies.

Martine comes from Kouring. In 2009, she was injured in a mine explosion. Since then, she has been speaking out to raise awareness of the dangers of explosive devices and prevent further accidents.

In 1992, Mansata had to flee the village of Bissine in Senegal to escape armed violence. Thirty years later, she has returned and now lives here in safety with her children and grandchildren.

Samira, now a teenager, lost her leg when she was 9 as the result of a bullet wound. Thanks to HI, she can now stand on her own two feet again and is confidently looking to the future.
